Our yearly Citizen of the Year awards offer the perfect opportunity for us to salute and reward those residents who work hard supporting our local community while achieving success in their chosen fields.

Our 2017 Citizen of the Year awards were awarded on Australia Day 2018, across four categories, including: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sports Citizen of the Year and Arts & Culture Citizen of the Year.

Our 2017 Citizen of the Year award recipients were:

Citizen of the Year – Alice Kang

Alice is the Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Concord Hospital, having started work at the hospital as a nurse over 40 years ago.  Alice has been the driving force behind the Hospital's events and fundraisers including Opera at Rivendell and the recent Rivendell Flower Show.  She also serves as Executive Officer to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway, organising numerous yearly commemorative services and remains a tireless advocate for our veterans.

Young Citizen of the Year – James King

Rosebank College's School Captain for 2018, James exemplifies the virtues of good citizenship.  He has served on the College's Student Representative Council and is a selfless role model for not only younger students, but also his peers.  James successfully lobbied the NSW State Government for the rights of those under 18 to report issues pertaining to environment to the EPA and is heavily involved in our community.

Arts & Culture Citizen of the Year – Concord Garden Club

As one of the oldest garden clubs in Australia, the Concord Garden Club has been working in our community for over six decades, meeting monthly to share cuttings, knowledge, expertise and to prepare for the Club's annual show, the 'Autumn Flower, Vegetable and Floral Art Show'.  This important community Club has fostered enduring friendships and provides an important link to our community's history and heritage.

Sports Citizen of the Year – Abbotsford Juniors Football Club U18s

The Abbotsford Juniors U18s completed an historic season in 2017, first winning the Canterbury District Division 1 Championship and then going on to be crowned NSW's number one team after winning the Football NSW Champion of Champions Tournament for the first time in the Club's 52 year history.
