Mayor's Giving Trees receive and abundance of donations

20 December 2017 | Community

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas expresses great thanks to the community for the generosity shown towards those in need this Christmas.

Each year, residents are invited to donate useful items, such as non-perishable foods, toys, toiletry items or supermarket gift cards, to the Mayor’s Giving Trees. All items will be distributed across the City of Canada Bay by St Vincent de Paul Society volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure those experiencing disadvantage can have an enjoyable Christmas.

The Mayor’s Giving Trees are set up annually at the City of Canada Bay Civic Centre in Drummoyne, and Five Dock and Concord libraries. This year also saw businesses in Concord West Sustainable Village come together to participate in the collection of donations, generating a boom in the total number of gifts received.

“It’s fantastic to see the whole community coming together to support St Vincent de Paul Society in spreading joy this Christmas,” Mayor Tsirekas said. “Whether a participating business or generous donor, I’m so grateful to everyone involved for making this initiative such a success.”

In addition to the numerous gifts collected at the Civic Centre and libraries, there were also 12 sacks of goodies collected across 12 participating stores in the first 12 days of December. Thanks to the extra support from the following businesses, more families will feel the benefit of City of Canada Bay’s Christmas spirit this year.
