Reflecting Rhodes - Photography Competition

The City of Canada Bay would like to commission a major artwork to feature in the foyer of the new Connection multi-purpose building at Rhodes. You are invited to take part in an exciting photography competition, celebrating Rhodes. The winner will receive a major prize (to the value of $1000) and the prestige of your work being displayed in The Connection

The competition is free to enter and open to all residents, employees and visitors to Rhodes who wish to depict images of people and places in and around Rhodes. The primary purpose is to create a picture which enhances the building foyer.

What do I need to do?

Artwork Themes
Create an image that reflects the theme of the beauty of Rhodes. The aspirations for the new rapidly developing neighbourhood in Rhodes are for a healthy, sustainable, vibrant and contemporary community life.

How do I enter?
Complete and sign the Entry Form after you have read the Conditions of Entry. Together with your name, address, email and telephone number, include the photo’s title with each photographic print - email your entry form and photograph to rhodes@canadabay.nsw.gov.au before the closing date of Monday, 14 March 2016. Image quality at 300ppi, saved as an uncompressed JPEG, to fit within A1 size. 

All suitable entries will be displayed in an exhibition in Rhodes in early autumn. An esteemed panel of judges will select the winner. Exhibition visitor’s comments will also be considered.

Conditions of entry

  1. The photo comp is free and open to all residents, employees and visitors to Rhodes and entries are to depict images of people and places in and around Rhodes. 
  2. The competition closes on Monday, 14 March 2016
  3. Photographs entered must have been taken after 1 November 2015. 
  4. If a photo is taken of a person, her / his permission for the photo to be entered in the competition and should be obtained in writing. Parental permission should be obtained if taking a photo of a person under the age of 18. Click here for form.
  5. Up to two photos may be entered per entrant. 
  6. Photos are to fit within an A1 size (594mm x 841mm) sheet, maximum. An electronically sent image’s quality is to be at 300ppi, saved as an uncompressed JPEG and emailed to arts@canadabayns.gov.au Entries will be exhibited in Rhodes during March. Details will be provided in the confirmation of entry. 
  7. The winning photo will be considered by the judges to best represent the theme. The judges’ decisions are final.
  8. Winner will be announced and prize awarded by the Mayor or a Councillor of Canada Bay at a the opening of the connection

Entries may be featured in Council publications, on its website or in media campaigns. Council will include the entrants’ names to acknowledge photographs where possible. Entrants specifically wanting their photographs returned need to tick the box on the entry form. Copyright of photos remains with the photographer. 

  • All entrants must provide a signed entry form with their photographs when entering the competition. Entries will not be accepted without a completed entry form. 
  • Council reserves the right to refuse or not display an entry. 

The information submitted by the entrant on this Entry Form is personal information and will be stored, used and disclosed in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth). City of Canada Bay Council collects information on this Entry Form for the purposes of conducting and promoting the competition, exhibition and awarding prizes.
Calling all budding photographers! You are invited to take part in an exciting photography competition, which celebrates the faces, places and stories of the Chiswick area.

The competition is free and open to all residents, employees and visitors to Chiswick who wish to depict images of people and places in and around Chiswick. 

There an acquisitive prize of $1000 for the winning photograph. The Photograph will be used as an artwork in the entry foyer of the Multipurpose hall at The Connection. All entries will form part of the local studies collection and credited. Any entrant who does not want to be included in this collection should inform Council with their entry.

Photography workshops in Rhodes

Council will offer five workshops including a guided walks and talk to stimulate your creative ideas and hone your photography skills. Learn about some of the fundamental creative principles of photography, get some technical know-how about cameras, lighting, computers and software or simply come and have a chat about the project in general.

  4. Dusk and Night time photography
