City of Canada Bay announces biggest budget to date

19 June 2018 | Council

Today’s budget announcement features over $150 million in capital works – the biggest program the City of Canada Bay has ever seen, said City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

“The budget announcement comes off the back of the largest community engagement project we have ever undertaken – our Community Strategic Plan. We went to the community to build a plan for our future to meet the opportunities that lie ahead, and now we are ready to hit the ground running,” said Mayor Tsirekas.

Highlights of the 2018-2021 delivery program span across a range of service areas.

The budget proposes $30 million for the redevelopment of Concord Oval, providing world class sporting and recreation facilities for our community, and a Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence.

Sporting groups will benefit from a $4.4 million project providing new synthetic playing surfaces at Majors Bay Reserve in Concord.

The streetscape upgrades along Great North Road will continue with a $3.3 million makeover, part of the Five Dock Public Domain Upgrade.

“It’s an exciting time for the City of Canada Bay. Along with these key projects, we are developing a new bike plan in consultation with the community, identifying how future pedestrian and cycling infrastructure can benefit active residents, workers, and visitors alike.”

In the 2018-19 capital works budget alone City of Canada Bay will spend $21 million on capital works, including $6 million on parks and seawalls, $5.3 million on footpath upgrades, $3 million on roads, and over $880,000 on swimming pools.
