The City of Canada Bay is committed to being a child and family friendly City that provides high quality child and family services, facilities and programs that aim to compliment and reflect the diversity of the community.

As part of this commitment, wherever you live in the City of Canada Bay you will be able to access a range of services, facilities and programs for children and families.

Accommodation, health, education and care services are provided by organisations other than Council.

CITY OF CANADA BAY FAMILY DAY CARE (FDC) SERVICE

The City of Canada Bay Family Day Care Scheme was transferred to Family Day Care Sydney Wide in 2015 and is operated by The Infants' Home Ashfield. For more information, please visit The Infants' Home website

BAYSIDE KIDS SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM 

Provides a variety of leisure and recreation activities for children aged 5-14 years, including workshops and clinics during school holidays. For more details visit the Bayside Kids School Holiday Program page.

TRANSITION TO SCHOOL

Starting school is an exciting but also potentially stressful time for both children and families. 

The Starting School, Practical Advice for Families Booklet is a guide that assists with school readiness and outlines the importance of a successful transition to school. It also provides useful information to support a positive transition to school. The booklet covers concerns about preparing children for school and questions relating to age, readiness, expectations about school and choosing a school.  

CHILDREN @ THE LIBRARIES 

The City of Canada Bay's library service offers a range of programs and activities for children from birth to Year 6, including Baby Rhymetime, Toddlertime, Preschool Storytime, after school book groups and school holiday activities.

CHILD FRIENDLY CITY

City of Canada Bay is committed to creating a more child friendly environment for the benefit of families and children across the area. Council provides quality services and works in partnership with community stakeholders to achieve this. Council provides a range of services, programs and activities aimed at creating a more child friendly city including:

Victoria Avenue Children's Centre

About 

Victoria Avenue Children's Centre is a long day care facility directly managed by the City of Canada Bay. It opened in March 2015. 

Victoria Avenue Children's Centre is located within the Victoria Avenue community precinct, providing convenient onsite access to Victoria Avenue Public School, Early Childhood Health, Out of School Hours Care and community playing fields.

The Centre caters for 47 children per day, aged from six weeks to school age, and operates between 7.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

The Centre offers:

  • Educational programs.
  • Three playrooms and two outdoor yards.
  • Online parent portal with access to centre documents, children's developmental records and the centre's program.
  • Natural, home-like environment to support and stimulate children's development and learning.
  • Highly qualified and experienced staff.
  • School readiness and transition to school program, developed and implemented in partnership with the primary school.
  • Three healthy and nutritious meals prepared fresh, onsite each day by the in-house cook.
  • Alternate menu to support children with allergies and/or food restrictions.  

Fees

The daily fee for the 2018/19 financial year for all age groups is $124 per day - commences 1 July 2018.

Wellbank Children's Centre

About

Wellbank Children’s Centre is a long day care facility owned and operated by the City of Canada Bay. The Centre is located within the Concord community facility which hosts Concord Library, an occasional care centre and Wellbank Children’s Centre.

The centre operates 52 weeks of the year, between 7.30am and 6pm (excluding public holidays). It provides quality care for 51 children per day, aged between six weeks to five years old. At the Centre, we offer:

  • Quality educational programs that recognise the unique individuality of each child
  • A safe, caring and stimulating environment
  • School readiness and transition to school program
  • Healthy and nutritious meals
  • Creative indoor and outdoor spaces to play
  • Experienced and qualified staff.

Victoria Avenue Community Precinct

The Victoria Avenue Community Precinct was completed in January 2015.  

The project is a joint venture between the NSW Government and the City of Canada Bay that encourages the shared use of school facilities by the community to service a broad range of community needs at one location. The precinct is located at 64-66 Victoria Avenue, Concord West.  

The Precinct includes a new primary school catering for up to 600 students including four supported classes, a purpose-built outside school hours care centre, a 47 place children's centre for children from birth to school age and early childhood health services.

Bayside Kids School Holiday Program

Bayside Kids is a fully supervised school holiday program at the centre.

The program involves a variety of sports including gymnastics and is suited for children of all abilities. The next school holiday program will run from Monday 7 January to Friday 25 January 2019. 

An in-house fully supervised school holiday program that includes a range of sports, fun games, gymnastics in our state of the art hall, a movie plus arts and crafts for children 4 -12 years of age.


Typical daily schedule for a DAY CAMP (guide only)

  • 8.00-9.00am: Extended day children arrive - Gymnastics Hall
  • 9:00am: Full and extended day children enter stadium courts
  • 9.00am-9.30am: Introduction games in Sports Hall
  • 9.30am-9.45am: Group allocation
  • 9.45am-11am: Sports circuit in Sports Hall (children separated into age groups)
  • 11.00am-11.30am: Morning tea and toilet break upstairs
  • 11.30am-1pm: Gymnastics 
  • 1:00pm-1:45pm: Farewell to half day children 1pm. Lunch for full and extended day kids
  • 1.45pm-3.30pm:Group 1: Art and crafts  in the Activities Room group 2: gymnastics (rotate)
  • 3.30pm-5pm: Children’s movie rated either G or PG. Farewell to full day children 5pm
  • 5.00pm-6:00 pm: Arts and crafts/board games/free time in the Activities Room

Cost

  • Half day 9am-1pm - $49  (recommended for children aged 4yrs)
  • Full day 9am-5pm - $59
  • Extended day 8am-6pm - $69

Cafe on site

Is your child a registered gymnast wanting to attend the school holiday program AND their regular term gymnastics class?

Any registered gymnasts who are attending regular term classes during the holidays and would like to be a part of this school holiday program are encouraged to enrol. Staff will be available to transfer children from the holiday program into their regular term class and back again into the holiday program at their scheduled time. Parents/Guardians MUST advise the front desk when SIGNING IN. This will ensure your childs name is marked on the roll our coaches will use for transferring children to and from classes. Failure to do so will result in your child missing out on their regular gymnastics class.
