City of Canada Bay celebrates International Women's Day

| 12 March 2018

Organised by The Bloody Great Committee and sponsored by City of Canada Bay, this event on 8 March promises to be an inspiring morning celebrating our local women and supporting a great cause.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the world-leading clinical trials for blood cancer patients at Concord Hospital - cutting-edge research which evaluates the safety and benefits of emerging therapies, giving patients with blood cancer a better quality of life and hope for a cure.

‘The International Women’s Day fundraising breakfast is a great example of how we are committed to encouraging and promoting local organisations and groups to run events for our community. This is a great initiative and I encourage everyone to come along,’ says City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

‘This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women globally and locally, and also raise funds for a bloody great cause. The clinical trials at Concord Hospital support patients with Leukaemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma and other blood disorders, giving them access to millions of dollars worth of innovative medicines long before they are publicly funded. We encourage the community to come along and support us,’ says Marie Piccin, The Bloody Great Committee Chair.

Come along to the breakfast and be inspired by guest speakers:

2016 Drummoyne Woman of the Year – A/Prof Judith Trotman, Director of the Haematology Clinical Research Unit at Concord Hospital. The formidable leader of the life-saving clinical trials for hundreds of blood cancer patients, and mother of six.

2017 City of Canada Bay’s Citizen of the Year – Alice Kang, Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Concord Hospital. The driving force behind the hospital’s events and fundraisers and a tireless advocate for our veterans.
