Celebrating Small Business Month

Business | 18 October 2023

Supporting the backbone of our local economy.

October marks Small Business Month and is an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful businesses across the City of Canada Bay. Our hairdressers, artists, cleaners, bakers and baristas are the heart of our local economy.

Celebrate small business Council runs several programs and initiatives throughout the year to help support our business community. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

Drummoyne Business Chamber Schools Program

Are you the owner of a local business? Or do you have a high school student at home? We've partnered with Drummoyne Business Chamber and local high schools to create a program that links businesses with work experience students. The program introduces high school students to a range of industries and experiences while providing businesses with much-needed assistance.

Five Dock Food Tours

Sample delicious Italian delights and support local Five Dock businesses by joining a Five Dock Little Italy Food Tour. Run in partnership with Council, the food tours visit local delis, bakeries, butchers and more. The 2.5-hour tours explore a selection of hand-picked venues, where you’ll be able to indulge in authentic cured meats and Italian produce, savor creamy gelato and freshly baked pastries, and relish the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The next tour is at 10am on Friday, 10 November, and bookings are essential.

Love Local

The easiest thing you can do to support our businesses is to love local! By shopping local, you’re not only supporting local jobs, you’re also helping small businesses support community groups, sporting clubs, and more. Every dollar spent locally makes a difference, so get to know your neighborhood a little better by shopping, dining, and exploring local. Check out our Love Local map at bit.ly/lovelocalccb to find information on local businesses, including cafés and restaurants, medical professionals, trade services, and more. If you own a business, add yourself to the map to help more people find you. To see other initiatives and services on offer to help support local businesses visit Love Local.
