With the success of our Sustainable Schools Network, we launched the Sustainable Childcare Network in 2014. The aim of the network is to assist, advise and inspire schools and centres to incorporate sustainability education within the curriculum and run projects in their centres. We have attracted 20 active service members who participate in network meetings and free workshop opportunities.

The SCN is managed by the Sustainability Team and offers free sustainability workshops, resources and four network meetings each year (one per term) hosted by early childhood on a rotating basis. Meetings are open to all educators and parents of the school.

Each meeting includes:

  • Guest speaker on a sustainability topic
  • Announcements of free workshops and resource opportunities
  • Information about sustainability resources, tools and programs available from environmental organisations

The SCN has assisted preschools with environmental incursions, Indigenous education, staff development, litter and waste reduction programs. Education programs have been delivered to schools by Koori Kinnections, Seed Harvest Spoon, Splash Into and SITA. Our network meetings have been successful and we thank the centres for their enthusiasm, contribution and positive actions such as veggie beds, composting and worm farming, nature play and natural outdoor landscapes.
