Leah Harris is a qualified scientist and a self-taught fine artist living with disability in Wangal Place on Gadigal land. Her process is ephemeral – it documents places, times, and the feelings captured in those moment. Leah's previous exhibitions have focussed on the life drawing of subcultures in Sydney’s vivid communities; this is her first project that is from her personal experience.
Loose Facts is a series of drawings created after her diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). EDS is a connective tissue disorder characterized by varying degrees of skin hyperextensibility, joint hypermobility, and vascular fragility. In honour of EDS Awareness Month (May), each image is titled with a scientific fact about EDS.
Each drawing is a letter of love and grief – to all the adjustments, missed opportunities, the connections made and lost, and the pain that no one else sees. These works are a series of stories of the ever-changing way that we interact with our world, when we live with invisible pain.
