By providing affordable rental housing, Council aims to assist people earning low to moderate incomes to live and work in the City of Canada Bay, provide them with improved rental housing security and enable them to establish savings for the private rental market or home ownership. Council currently owns 27 dwellings located within the North Strathfield and Concord West area, which range in size from 1 bedroom to 2 or 3 bedrooms. Council has appointed Bridge Housing to manage the units.
Recipients of affordable rental housing in the City of Canada Bay will be required to meet the income criteria as set by the Australian Government's National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS), employment criteria and additional criteria as set out in Council's Affordable Housing Policy.
Income thresholds for 2016/17 were set at $48,527 to $115,376 per annum, depending on household compositions. The income thresholds are reviewed annually by the Australian Government in accordance with the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) tenant income index.
