Canada Bay asks community to help shape future of Concord parklands

Council | 03 July 2023

The City of Canada Bay is calling for community input to develop a masterplan and a plan of management which will determine the direction and design for the future of six major parks in Concord.

The Concord Parklands Corridor is comprised of Edwards Park, Greenlees Park, Jessie Stewart Reserve, Rothwell Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Goddard Park with the corridor boasting a wide range of recreational, and community uses.

“I look forward to gaining insight from the community about their experiences with the vibrant and unique green space that makes up the Concord Parklands Corridor, and hearing their ideas about how these spaces can be improved, managed and maintained in the future,” City of Canada Bay Major Angelo Tsirekas said.

These six parks that make up the corridor include passive use green space, sportsgrounds, paths and walkways, playgrounds, a remnant turpentine forest and stormwater and floodplain infrastructure which will all be considered in the process of developing the proposed Masterplan and Plan of Management.

“The Concord Parklands Corridor plays a significant role in helping the City of Canada Bay community keep active, healthy and connected and the proposed Masterplan and Plan of Management will be vital to ensure these green spaces continue to provide these important benefits for as many community members as possible into the future,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

City of Canada Bay residents have been encouraged to share their current usage and improvement ideas for the future at information drop-in sessions:

  • Edwards Park playground, Saturday 17 June, 9am-12pm
  • Queen Elizabeth Park playground, Sunday 18 June, 9am-12pm
