Canada Bay to double bulk household waste collections for residents

Sustainability | 29 June 2023

The City of Canada Bay has adopted changes to Council’s waste collection services that will see an increase in bulky household waste collections for residents in 2025.

“Residents will have access to at least four bulky household waste collections per year after changes to Council’s waste collection services were adopted at our June Council meeting,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

“We know that regular and reliable waste services are important to our residents, and we are pleased to announce this change that provides increased flexibility for our community,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

The City will be transitioning from two scheduled bulk household waste collections per year to at least four collections in a mixed service model that is designed to meet the needs of both houses and apartments. Houses and small apartment blocks will also be able to book in a service.

Over the next 18 months Council will be consulting with apartment buildings to identify each building’s needs and developing a plan to roll out the new service from 1 January 2025.

In the last decade the City of Canada Bay has seen changes to housing in the area, including an increase in multi-unit dwellings, and this change helps to ensure our service meets the needs of our growing community.
