This month the City of Canada Bay hosted a Community Services Network event to connect with local community service providers and volunteers working in our area.
On Tuesday, 9 April more than 60 people came along to meet Council’s Community Development Team and discuss key issues impacting the community services industry with fellow colleagues.
“The event was a great success and I’m delighted that Council is able to facilitate collaboration in this space to help more residents in our area access essential services and improve quality of life in the City of Canada Bay,” said Mayor Michael Megna.
Attendees learnt about the changing demographics and social needs of our area and had the chance to look at ways local service providers could work together and with Council to support residents. The group also got an introduction to the Community Circles app developed by Touched By Olivia from the foundation’s founder, John Perkins.
“The Community Services Networking event was awesome – to see so many community groups together, in one room, sharing ideas and wanting to connect with each other, gives a great indication of the rich, vibrant community within the Canada Bay LGA. All we need to do is to keep these groups connected, and that’s what this event was enabling,” said Perkins.
The feedback from attendees was also overwhelmingly positive and has already sparked partnership opportunities, with one attendee from BaptistCare Kitty Doyle Apartments in Five Dock connecting with Drummoyne Community Centre to provide residents community transport.
