The City of Canada Bay celebrates Make Music Day

Community & events | 05 June 2023

On 21 June the City of Canada Bay will join hundreds of cities in a global celebration of music.

“This is the sixth year in a row our Council has taken part in Make Music Day and showcased the wonderful musicians in our area,” City of Canada Bay Mayor’s Angelo Tsirekas said.

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now held on the same day in more than 750 cities in 120 countries.

The day is a DIY music festival and anyone who wants to take part — young or old, amateur or professional, of every musical persuasion — can organise their own gig or work with the City of Canada Bay to share their music with friends, neighbours, and strangers.

“Council plays an important role in supporting creatives and Make Music Day is an opportunity to promote and platform local musicians,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“Whether you want to put your musical talents on display or simply enjoy some wonderful performances, I encourage you to get involved.”

This year music lovers, makers and performers can get involved by:

  • Registering to busk in the town centres of Drummoyne, Concord or Rhodes.
  • Submitting a video performance to win a paid on-stage performance at Ferragosto 2023.
  • Enjoying live community performances in Rhodes or joining a drumming workshop in Five Dock.
