Clothes and Textiles Mending Workshop

Concord Community Centre View in maps

Got clothes or household items in need of some care? Instead of tossing them out, bring them to our Clothes and Textiles Mending Workshop! Whether it’s a favorite sweater, a torn curtain, or a damaged cushion cover, we’ll teach you how to breathe new life into these items using simple, sustainable repair methods. The session will include a group activity focused on an introduction to darning, a key mending technique. Then we'll mend the clothing or household items you have brought along and share advice and technical tips.

What to expect:

  • Mending together: Bring your repair projects and connect with like-minded individuals. Our expert facilitator will guide you through the basics of hand mending, from darning holes to fixing seams and hems. No prior sewing experience is necessary!
  • Learn new skills: Gain valuable tips and tricks to extend the life of your clothing and household items. You’ll leave with a set of practical skills for everyday repairs.
  • Sustainability focus: Join us in reducing waste, helping keep textiles in circulation and making a positive impact on the environment. Instead of tossing out damaged items, we’ll teach you how to repair and reuse them.

Whether you have something to mend or want to get started on a new project, this workshop is for you! If you don’t have any items to repair, there will be alternative activities available to help you learn the ropes.

Materials provided: We will provide all necessary tools for the workshop, including hand sewing needles, threaders, thimbles, scissors, thread, wool, sewing machines, fabric for patching, and interfacing. Feel free to bring your own materials if you prefer.

Join us for a fun, creative, and sustainable way to care for your belongings and learn new skills!
