Dr Sanduk Ruit in conversation with Alison Hill from the Fred Hollows Foundation

In 1986, Dr Sanduk Ruit worked with friend and mentor, the late Fred Hollows, to devise a strategy to use small-incision cataract surgery (SICS) in the developing world.

Since that time, Dr Ruit has restored the sight of over 120,000 people across Africa and Asia and trained thousands of eye doctors in his SICS technique.

His return to Australia to launch The Barefoot Surgeon is his way of saying thanks to Fred and Gabi.
