Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability

Breadcrumb

At Ferragosto this year, we are actively working towards delivering a safe, accessible and sustainable event in a number of areas.

Safety

Lost person

A lost person may be a child or a vulnerable individual without an accompanying adult. If you find someone who is lost, please inform the nearest security personnel or event staff member, or go to the police stall located at the end of Great North Road, near Lyons Road, and notify them of the situation.

If you are an adult looking for a missing child or vulnerable individual, please stay at their last known location and inform event staff, security personnel, police, or Council staff at the Information Stall if you are nearby.

First aid

First aid hubs are located throughout the event at the following locations:

  • Kings Road
  • Second Avenue
  • Rodd Road

To ensure that they are easily found, first aid signage will be displayed in front of each hub.

Adverse weather

In the event of adverse weather conditions, announcements will be made to remind all attendees to seek shelter, wear appropriate clothing, and apply sunscreen. Council staff will be available to direct you to the nearest drinking stations and first aid hubs.

For extreme weather conditions, Council may cancel or postpone the event to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.

Accessibility

Amenities

Throughout the festival, accessible toilets will be at the following locations:

  • Rodd Road
  • Barnstaple Road
  • Waterview Street Carpark
  • Kings Road Carpark

Our designated seating areas in Birra Moretti's Beer Garden and our Italian Village will offer more seating to ensure comfort as you enjoy the delicious treats offered at the nearby stalls.

Entertainment

Our stages will host a diverse array of performers, showcasing a wide range of talents. At the FerraVarietà (Main Stage), an AUSLAN interpreter will be present during speeches and performer introductions. Moreover, there will be accessible seating for senior visitors and people with disabilities.

FerraCinema will feature closed captions, which will be displayed throughout all movie screenings.

Information

Announcements will be made throughout the festival, directing people to key areas of interest and reminding them of our amenities. To aid with wayfinding, signage will be displayed clearly in several areas of the event.

Transport

There is accessible car parking available at Waterview Street Carpark and bike parking spots in Kings Road and Rodd Road.

Sustainability

Sustainable transport

Transport is often one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions for events. Here are some eco-friendly ways you can get to the festival:

  • Ride your bike. Bike parking is available at the event.
  • Catch the free shuttle bus.
  • Walk. Get your steps up and walk to the event!
Single-use plastics

Stall holders are banned from distributing single-use plastic bags, straws, cutlery, food packaging and balloons. If possible, bring along your own reusable bags, cutlery and cups to help reduce waste.

Water stations or bubblers will be available at the event. Bring along your refillable drink bottle and you'll have access to free drinking water all day.

Learn about sustainable living

Visit the Council Information stall and speak to the Sustainability and Waste Team about embedding sustainable practices in your daily life.

Carbon neutral

Emissions from this event are offset to ensure our operations remain carbon neutral. To do this, we invested in projects that reduced or absorbed greenhouse gas emissions equal to what we produced, through the carbon offset market.
