The City of Canada Bay recently teamed up with Disability Sports Australia to host its first Abilities Unleashed Adults sporting event for people with disability at Concord Oval Recreation Centre.
The inclusive sports day saw more than 40 participants come together at Concord Oval Recreation Centre to take part in a range of fun activities for all abilities including football and walking football, cricket and a Special Olympics tournament.
The all-day event was led by Australian Summer and Winter Paralympian and Para Matilda, Rae Anderson, who also works for Disability Sports Australia as a Program Support Officer.
The Abilities Unleashed program aims to motivate and enable participants to discover opportunities to get active within a safe and inclusive environment. It also provides a platform for local inclusive programs and disability service providers to collaborate and connect to people with disabilities in their area.
“We were delighted to support this national initiative from Disability Sports Australia and help promote inclusivity, health and wellbeing in our community,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna.
“At the City of Canada Bay our vision is for all our residents to have the opportunity to be involved in community life, this includes enjoying a range of inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities.”
