Cutting Red Tape: Canada Bay Extends Residential Parking Permits to June 2026

Council | 15 December 2024

Residents who hold a current Residential Parking Permit or a current Parks Parking Permit, and who have had no change in address or car registration, have had their permits automatically extended to 30 June 2026.

“I’m very happy to let our community know that, this year, we are removing the need for residents to go through the hassle of renewing their parking permits during the busy holiday period,” Mayor Michael Megna said.

The change will see residents who hold a current Residential Parking Permit or a current Parks Parking Permit, and who have had no change in address or car registration, have their permits automatically extended to 30 June 2026.

All other eligible residents will be able to apply for the extended permit from 1st February 2025 through an improved online application.

“Our newly elected Council called on staff to look across the organisation for ways to save our residents time and make life easier for our community – and this is the first in many improvements to our customer processes that will come over the course of this term.”

The automatic extension of a number of parking permits is part of a suite of changes that reflects the City of Canada Bay’s renewed focus on delivering better customer experience.

“In addition to bypassing the upcoming renewals, we are making the application much simpler and removing a lot of the red tape for residents when they apply, such as streamlining the current onerous ID requirements.”

“I know from speaking to residents that the application cycle for these permits, and the painful applications process itself, is one of the great bugbears for our community when it comes to dealing with Council, so I know residents will be thrilled with this common sense extension”

“At the same time, this initiative will free up thousands of hours for our customer experience team, enabling them to dedicate more time to assisting residents with other important services.”

The decision is part of the Council’s broader strategy to identify practical improvements that benefit the community, streamline processes, and enhance service delivery.

Current permit holders who have had a change in car registration and new permit applicants will receive further information in January on how to apply.

Further details on the changes will be released in January 2025.
