Majors Bay Reserve in Concord will soon be home to the City of Canada Bay’s first synthetic football field as part of a giant $6.7 million upgrade.

“I am thrilled to announce that works are well advanced on our Majors Bay Reserve Sporting Precinct Upgrade, ensuring our City’s open spaces will continue to service the growing needs of our active community,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“We are transforming Majors Bay Reserve into a world class sporting precinct for the future of our community.”

“The new sporting precinct will house a state-of-the-art synthetic soccer field for use all year round,” said Mayor Tsirekas. “This will be a first for Canada Bay.”

A new amenities building complete with new change rooms, toilets, and canteen is also part of the plan.

“With our City’s population on the rise, these upgrades will ensure there is capacity to provide active fields for our thriving sporting community.”

Synthetic turf provides a consistent playing surface in every season, safer conditions for participants, and a lower ongoing maintenance cost.

“It is fantastic that hundreds soccer players currently enjoy the use of Majors Bay Reserve throughout the football season and this upgrade will see that figure grow, with more clubs and many more players enjoying this field all year round.”

“We are thrilled with the new synthetic field in Concord and we are really looking forward to using the new facilities,” said Carlo Ianni, Inter Lions Football Club President.

“I am sure sporting enthusiasts will be thrilled with the synthetic field project at Sid Richards reserve and eagerly anticipate its completion in mid-2020,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

This project is jointly funded by the City of Canada Bay ($4.4 million) and NSW Government ($2.3 million).
