A $5.72 million community and play space is set to open in Five Dock this June as the suburb gears up for substantial growth.
Proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay, the project has transformed Charles Heath Reserve with a brand-new adventure playground, complete with picnic shelters, barbecues, and amenities building.
"We're committed to ensuring our growing community has access to plenty of green, open space into the future,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said.
“Our multimillion-dollar upgrade of Charles Heath Reserve will provide new and existing residents with a fantastic facility to get together and play outdoors.”
The centrepiece of the upgrade is a brand-new adventure playground featuring two accessible play towers for younger and older children, positioned high among the treetops.
"Charles Heath Reserve is a place where everyone can play together,” Mayor Megna said.
"Three-quarters of the play equipment is accessible, including a trampoline and carousel designed especially for wheelchair users.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government’s $198 million Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program is improving public infrastructure and open space for the growing Five Dock-Kings Bay community.
“Reimagining the Parramatta Road corridor is one of our key priorities since coming into Government, and we’re thrilled to have invested $4.35 million to deliver on this vision,” Mr. Scully said.
“Quality open space is critical for the health and wellbeing of every community, and this upgrade will directly benefit more than 400 households.”
Visitors to the reserve will also enjoy the vibrant artwork ‘Windows though Five Dock’ by renowned muralist, Fintan Magee, which tells a visual story of Five Dock’s unique heritage and native landscape.
