New adventure playground set for Brett Park in Drummoyne

Council | 08 February 2023

Children will soon have a new place to play with the City of Canada Bay sharing plans for an exciting nature adventure playground.

“I am thrilled to share plans for a new play space alongside the Bay Run, a short walk from the Drummoyne Swimming Centre,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

Based on community feedback, Council is proposing to build a new playground in Brett Park at the corner of Tranmere Street and Day Street in Drummoyne. The existing playground will be maintained until the end of its service life before becoming an outdoor fitness area.

The proposed plans for the new adventure playscape include a natural play environment that consists of tree logs, natural timber, rope elements, boulders, plants, water, sand, and sensory play, instead of traditional plastic playground structures.

“The concept plans we are sharing for the new playground are based on community feedback. I’m delighted we were able to develop a shared vision for the space that people from all walks of life and abilities can come together and enjoy,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

The $400,000 project is jointly funded with $250,000 from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s Places to Play Program and $150,000 from Council.

Community feedback on the concept plans is open until 2 March 2023. Following the review of this feedback, construction is set to commence is July and be complete by October 2023.
