Ride into the future

Planning & building | 24 September 2019

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas announces bright future for cyclists during this year’s NSW Bike Week.

“This week is NSW Bike Week and the perfect time to provide and update on our suite of projects improving cycling throughout our area,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“Not only do we host an annual free bike event for our community, we are continuing work on our $100,000 City-wide Bike Plan and the new Broughton Street cycleway build.”

“Our commitment to enhancing active transport infrastructure will meet the demand of our growing population and improve sustainable transport modes throughout our City.”

The $100,000 plan will identify the delivery of cycling infrastructure to meet current and future needs of bike riders.

“Thank you to all those in our community who got involved in the Canada Bay Bike Plan consultation. We are now developing the draft plan which will be on public exhibition later this year.”

“The plan will include investigating a regional cycleway linking the North Strathfield area through to Iron Cove and support our target to increase cycling as a mode of transport within the City to five per cent by 2036.”

“Our new cycleway along Broughton Street from Parramatta Road to Queen Elizabeth Park in Concord will improve access for cyclists and commuters alike.”

The City of Canada Bay is funding the bike plan and NSW Government is funding both the regional cycleway and Broughton Street cycleway.
