Your Council clean-up is changing for the better

Sustainability | 10 December 2024

Last month, the City of Canada Bay proudly launched a dedicated booking portal for Council clean-up as part of exciting changes to our Bulk Household Waste Services.

“I am pleased to announce that as of 1 January 2025, your Council clean-up will become more flexible and convenient, increasing from two annual scheduled collections to four collections per year,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna.

Those living in larger apartment blocks will automatically have four collections scheduled throughout the year, while residents living in freestanding homes or smaller apartment blocks will be able to book in a collection at a time that suits them.

“Depending on your type of residence, I encourage anyone who plans on cleaning out the shed or garage over the holidays to either check our online calendar for their upcoming collection date or visit the new booking portal and book a collection in advance for early next year,” said Mayor Megna.

What’s changing for residents in houses and small apartment blocks?

What’s changing for residents in medium-to-large apartment blocks?

Residents living in freestanding houses or small apartment blocks will be able to book in up to four collections a year.

Our easy-to-use booking portal is now open, with booking dates available from January 2025. Aim to book about 3 weeks in advance as availability may vary. To book a collection, visit

bit.ly/bulkhouseholdcollection or call the Waste Hotline on 1300 551 659.

Residents living in large apartment blocks (generally more than 21 units) will automatically have four collections scheduled throughout the year.

To find and print your collection dates for the year ahead, check out our online calendar at bit.ly/onlinewastecalendar or call the Waste Hotline on 1300 551 659.

Other aspects of the Bulk Household Waste Service will remain the same; items should still be placed out the night before your collection date in four separate piles: mattresses, bulk garden organics, general household items, and white goods and metals. This is because the different waste streams are collected by different trucks, and this helps us to maximise the number of items that can be recycled.

Remember, Council’s bulk household waste collection service should be considered a last resort for items that can't be rehomed or reused. More than 40% of items put out for Council clean-up are in reusable condition, so before sending your items to landfill, rethink your rubbish and consider whether your items could be donated, sold or picked up by our free home pick-up recycling service HomeCycle instead.
