General Information

What is Ferragosto?

Ferragosto is Sydney’s biggest Italian street festival and is a vibrant celebration of Italian culture, heritage and community spirit. It is a day to immerse yourself in the rich traditions, delicious cuisine and lively music that define Italy.

The event will be a feast for the senses with delicious street eats, cooking demonstrations, spectacular performances, market stalls, free rides and activities for the whole family.

Sunday, 18 August 2024, 10am – 5pm

Where is Ferragosto?

Great North Road, Five Dock (from Lyons Road intersection to Fairlight Street intersection).

Is Ferragosto free?

Yes, Ferragosto is a free community event for everyone to enjoy.

Children’s amusement rides are free, however fast pass ride tickets can also be purchased on the day near 7-Eleven.

Event Day Details

What should I bring to the event?

We are actively working towards delivering a sustainable event, if possible, bring along your own:

  • Reusable bags, cutlery and cups to help reduce waste.
  • Refillable drink bottle and you'll have access to free drinking water all day from water stations or bubblers available at the event.

There will also be wine tastings and a beer garden available.

What is there to see and do at the event?

The event will be a feast for the senses with delicious street eats, cooking demonstrations, spectacular performances, market stalls, free rides and activities for the whole family.

There are three stages featuring a variety of performances: FerraVarieta (Main Stage), FerraCommunita (Community Stage) and FerraCucina (Kitchen Stage). For the full program on each stage visit here.

What happens if it rains?

Ferragosto is an all-weather event, and we recommend that you wear appropriate clothing, and apply sunscreen. Council staff will be available to direct you to the nearest drinking stations and first aid hubs.

In the event of adverse weather conditions, announcements will be made to remind all attendees to seek shelter.

For extreme weather conditions, Council may cancel or postpone the event to ensure the safety of all attendees.

We recommend keeping up to date via our website and Ferragosto social channels.

What should I do if l lose something at Ferragosto?

Please let a member of the event team know on the day and they will take your details in case we find your misplaced item. Alternatively, please call Council the next business day on 9911 6555.

Accessibility

Is the event venue accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes.

Announcements will be made throughout the festival, directing people to key areas of interest and reminding them of our amenities. To aid with wayfinding, signage will be displayed clearly in several key areas.

Each stage will host a diverse array of performers, showcasing a wide range of talents and there will be accessible seating located at the main stage.

FerraCinema will feature closed captions, which will be displayed throughout all movie screenings.

Accessible toilet facilities will be located in the Kings Road Carpark, Waterview Street Carpark, Rodd Road, and Barnstaple Road.

Will there be translation services or sign language interpreters available?

At the FerraVarietà (Main Stage), an AUSLAN interpreter will be present during speeches and performer introductions.

Safety and Health Protocols

What should I do if I feel unwell on the day of the event?

There will be first aid hubs at the following locations:

  • Rodd Road (opposite 7-Eleven)
  • Corner of Second Avenue and Great North Road
  • Kings Road (opposite Club Five Dock RSL)

Council staff and security personnel will be briefed to radio for medical assistance if required.

What measures have been put in place for a lost person?

A lost person may be a child or a vulnerable individual without an accompanying adult. If you find someone who is lost, please inform the nearest security personnel, event staff member, first aid tent or stage, or go to the police stall located at the end of Great North Road, near Lyons Road, and notify them of the situation.

If you are an adult looking for a missing child or vulnerable individual, please stay at their last known location and inform event staff, security personnel, police, or Council staff at the Information Stall if you are nearby.

Council staff at Information stalls offer free wristbands for parents and guardians of children to put contact details on, in case their child becomes lost. It is also a good idea to give your child a card with your contact details on it or write a contact number on your child’s arm.

Can I bring my dog to Ferragosto?

Yes. Ferragosto is an incredibly popular event, and as such, dog owners need to ensure they have a good level of awareness of how their dog/animal behaves in crowds and consider whether the event is suitable for them.

Travel and Transport

Travel and Transport

With road closures and parking restrictions in place, the easiest way to get to the festival is by:

  • Riding your bike. Bike parking is available at the event. 
  • Catch the free shuttle bus. For more information on the bus route and stops, visit the Ferragosto Interactive Map.
  • Walk. Get your steps up and walk to the event!
  • Catch public transport. Use the Transport for NSW Trip Planner to stay up-to-date with information. You can also use one of the many real-time apps to track your service. Alternatively, you can call the Transport Information Line on 131 500.

There will some changes to public bus routes due to road closures on Ferragosto festival day, Sunday 18 August from 3am to 11pm. Changes will impact the following routes:

  • 406, 415, 437, 438X and 438N, 490, 491, 492, 502, 530

Can I park near Ferragosto?

With road closures and special event clearways in place during the festival, access to parking will be limited and traffic will be heavy. Some car parks in Five Dock (including Kings Road and Waterview Street Carparks) will be inaccessible during the event. These clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even for local residents or Mobility Scheme permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.

There is accessible car parking available at Waterview Street Carpark and bike parking spots in Kings Road and Rodd Road

Are there any traffic restrictions during Ferragosto?

A number of road closures will be in place throughout the event.

Anyone attending Ferragosto is strongly encouraged to leave their car at home and catch public transport as delays on roads are expected. The road closures are in place to keep pedestrians safe and allow for an enjoyable Ferragosto experience. It is an offence to drive on or exit a carpark or driveway onto a closed road until the road has been safely reopened.

I live near the event and have an issue with an illegally parked car. What do I do?

For issues such as a vehicle parked across your driveway or vehicles parked in a no-parking zone, please call Council's Customer Service team on 02 9911 6555 for assistance.
